In previous years FPTT has held an annual national conference with a workshop for members the day before. Now that the new ACCT is organizing a similar conference annually, and because the technology transfer community in Canada in unable to support two general conferences, FPTT will be partnering with ACCT on its two-day annual event to be held November 13-14, 2006 in Ottawa. The ACCT conference will address issues common to all technology transfer professionals, and offer an excellent opportunity to network with university and private-sector colleagues.
FPTT will hold a National Meeting on June 1, 2006, which will provide federal government technology transfer professional an opportunity to exchange ideas and share best practices. In response to member feedback, the day will begin with a brief AGM, followed by a session on licensing challenges. Participants will have an opportunity during the Knowledge Café to share "war stories". A rapporteur, who will remain at the table as participants rotate tables and issues, will report on the discussions at their tables.
Sessions are being planned on the obligations of departments under international trade agreements when licensing out, technology transfer metrics, and the pros and cons of an IP policy for federal government departments. The day will conclude with the unveiling of the FPTT Technology Transfer Desk Reference.
An informal get-together is planned May 31 for out-of-town members and for anyone wishing to drop-in.
